Stress, a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. Now that we know the definition, how do we fix it, or rather how do we de-stress?
Depending on the person and or the situation, I’m not entirely sure that you can fix it or completely eradicate stress. Meaning, some people can deal with a lot, while others crack with the slightest disturbance in their lives. So, realistically we will look at the tools and techniques to help minimize stress and ways to improve your coping skills. Learning how to deal with stressful situations better is key.
Here are my top 5 ways to teach you how to de-stress:
Deal With It
The longer you put things off the worse it gets. Case in point, I have a friend that kept postponing his colonoscopy terrified of what the results might be. It was his daughter that finally convinced him to do the procedure. Which came back negative. Two years of anguish, gone in that moment. You must deal with the situation, whatever it may be, face it, then move on.

Breathe
Taking deep breaths sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax. The brain then sends this message to your body. Practicing deep breathing is a highly effective method for relieving stress.

Journal
In Particular, start a gratitude journal. Studies suggest, starting each morning writing down what you are grateful for helps block out the negative thoughts and helps you recognize the good things in your life. This is especially beneficial during times of stress where we have a tendency to not recognize or notice the positive emotions in our lives. Papier Personalized Journals $32.99 papier.com
Exercise
Go for a Walk or Run. Exercise helps release endorphins, that feel-good neurotransmitter in the brain. We’ve talked about this many times and I cannot emphasize enough how exercise is life’s natural antidepressant or in this case de-stressor. Meditate
Mindful meditation involves focused concentration and being able to put yourself in the moment. Over and over again. Our minds do tend to wander, even more so during stress. With practice, you can learn to utilize these techniques wherever you are. Health experts also believe there are long-term benefits associated with meditation for stress relief as well as, reducing anxiety, chronic pain, and depression. Not sure how to meditate?
