It seems every day we are inundated with the latest detox or hearing of some celebrity that looks so fantastic just off the heels of her latest cleanse. We all want to look good and feel better but is this something we really need to do?
In theory, our bodies are designed to deal with toxins on a regular basis. Whether they were designed to deal with today’s levels remains to be seen.
The facts are that we live in a world where our food and atmosphere contain toxic chemicals. Our bodies are made up of trillions of cells always working to absorb nutrients and eliminate waste.
We are always detoxing! In fact, you are detoxing right at this very moment.
Now if you are thinking of doing a cleanse or detox to rid yourself of those few extra pounds or freeing yourself from sugar and junk food, that’s great as long as you don’t go back to your old habits.
Remember the saying, if you eat like crap, you feel like crap? You wouldn’t dream of putting regular gas in a Ferrari? No, you would put in the best premium fuel there is to offer.
So why in the world are we constantly fueling our bodies with all this processed food? Anybody that cuts out alcohol, smoking, sugar, and processed food will feel better of course.

A few years ago I decided to do a seven-day detox, not only to try and drop a few pounds but also wanted to see if I could do it. I did it and I’m not going to lie, it was tough. Never the less, at the end of those 7 days I felt better than I had in a long time. I also managed to lose four pounds.
Looking back, I now see why I felt so great. Not because I drank only liquids for 7 days or because I lost 4 pounds. It was because I challenged myself to do something I thought I could never do. That sense of accomplishment is really what gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling.
The truth is there really is no scientific evidence to show that these programs work. Can they make you feel better? Yes. Can it help jump-start you into a healthier lifestyle? Yes. Can we truly detox our bodies? No.
