Self-care. What does it mean and how do we do it? Well? It depends on who you ask really but basically, it is, “the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health.” To do so varies from person to person, whether it’s mental health, physical health, or both but there are some general guidelines for those of us wanting or needing to implement it in our own lives.

For the next couple of weeks @kissandtellmag on IG, we will feature tips, tricks and products to help you improve or get into the practice of self-care.

4 Tips On Practicing Self-Care

1. Spend Time With Friends
More importantly good friends. Ideally, friends that make you feel like family! Friends that support you, believe in you and make you laugh. Surrounding yourself with friends you feel are in “your corner” allows you to have more open and honest conversations without feeling judged.

2. Work It Out With A Workout
Exercise helps release endorphins, those “feel good” hormones that improve mood and overall mental clarity. Those spin classes can also boost your immunity and lower your risk for chronic health issues as well as acute illnesses. The benefits of regular physical activity are immeasurable. So come on! Just do it already.

3. Make Sleep A Priority
Not just any sleep but good quality sleep. Scientists believe it’s one of the best ways for reducing stress, helping you think clearer and make better decisions.  Getting proper shut-eye is also like a reboot for your brain. While you are sound asleep your brain is busy ridding itself of toxins, consolidating memory, and creating new neural pathways.
*The recommended amount of sleep for the average adult is 7 to 9 hours every night.

4. Do A Device Detox
We should all know this already but in case you haven’t heard,  technology is not making us happier! Or smarter for that matter. And has anyone heard of “text neck” yet? Yeah, it’s a real thing. No explanation is required. Please put down the devices people! Start implementing boundaries by setting up time frames for work, and limiting time on social apps and games using your phone “screen time” to help you.
It might be hard at first but I promise it will get easier.
Now. Get out there and see the world! It’s waiting for you.
